If you love words and want to find out more then English Language is the course for you.
The two year A Level course comprises four units: Two at AS and two at A2.
Unit One:
Question One: For this question we will be looking at a variety of different texts. It might be the back of a cornflakes packet or a few lines from Hansard (what's Hansard?) The question on the exam will ask you to group the texts in as many ways as you can think of.
Question Two: Here we look at language in its social contexts. Do men and women talk differently? How do we use language in ICT and technology? How do people in power use language?
Unit Two:
This is the opportunity to show off your own writing skills and produce your own texts. This might include film reviews, newspaper articles or a piece of drama. You could even write a speech!
Unit Three:
This is a language investigation. Here you get to research language in action. How would YOU describe yourself in a Lonely Hearts Column? Gordon Ramsey and Delia Smith approach cookery writing in different ways. What's the difference in their language? Disney's Bambi and The Lion King were made half a century apart: How do they differ?
Unit Four:
English has changed vastly over the centuries. How and why has that happened? Also, you can speak English well. How did you learn? What factors were involved? Join us to find out!
You need to bring an interest in language, an analytical mind, some creative flair and a GCSE English at grade C or above to take join this course, and we look forward to seeing you to tell you more!
