Connexions- career advice, information and guidance
There are 2 Connexions Personal Advisers in Queen Elizabeth Community College: Sally Trump and John Greaves. The Connexions office in school is in the careers library in East Wing. We also have an office in Queen Street, Exeter, where we see young people when they are not in school.
Connexions work with 13- 19 year olds. In school we mainly work with:
- Yr 9 – Helping young people make decisions about their options and careers advice.
- Yr 10 – Helping young people make decisions about what area of work to do their work experience in and careers advice.
-
Yr 11 - Helping young people with careers advice for the future and making decisions about what to do when they finish year 11:
- Courses at sixth form
- College courses
- Apprenticeships
- Job with Training
- Preparation courses to help young people into work or college
- Yr 12 & 13 – Helping young people with careers advice for the future, making decisions about: courses at University, job with training, apprenticeships, college courses.
Connexions work with young people with special needs by attending their annual reviews from Year 9. This ensures that they make a smooth transition and know about all the different options available to them.
We are available to meet students throughout the year and will attend Parents Evenings, Careers Conventions and other events. Students can request an interview through their tutor, mentor, Year team Leader or drop in to see us in our office. Students will receive an appointment slip through their tutor in registration.
During a careers interview in Year 11 we usually draw up an action plan to help young people with their decision making and planning. They will be given a copy to take home and are encouraged to share that with their parents or carers.
