Curriculum

We offer a wide and expanding range of courses to cater for the needs of not only those students intending to progress to University, but those who are interested in following other career paths - we offer more than just A levels.

We have created something we call the QE Diploma Award, modelled on the international Baccalaureate, including as well as a range of A levels, the Extended Project Qualification (for which we have been a national pilot centre) and a programme we call Community, Action, Service at QE.  This encourages students to participate in a wide variety of enrichment opportunities that last year included an expedition to Kilimanjaro!  We firmly believe that offering our students the QE Diploma Award vastly enhances their experience and strengthens their appeal to both Universities and eventual employers.
The Sixth Form Centre, College House, has also been greatly developed over the last few years.  At its heart we have created a modern, state of the art library, with ICT and book resources.  We have turned a redundant corner into a Sixth Form Cafe where students can relax and buy refreshments throughout the day.  Other rooms have been refurbished, turned into ICT facilities, or quiet study rooms and the small, intimate tutorial rooms give the feel of University to a lot of the learning experience.  Students also have access to a proper lecture theatre in the main school, as well as modernised and well equipped Science Laboratories and the usual range of facilities to support their learning in the wide range of courses we offer - right down to a computerised dark room and state of the art recording studio.

Student care in the Sixth Form is a particular strength of ours, offering, as we do, a very personal and supportive environment.  We have a dedicated Head of Sixth Form, Paula Smith and a Student Support Officer, Sue Evans, who is there throughout the day to help students, ably assisted by Rosie Cookson, who was recently a member of Sixth Form herself. We also have an excellent team of dedicated Sixth Form tutors who closely monitor their students’ progress and welfare.

A separate Sixth Form brochure and application form is available.
