Here at Queen Elizabeth’s we are hugely proud of our vast Outdoor Education program. We offer a massive range ofextra curricular activities for our pupils and even some that parents can get involved with.
Our afterschool program offers six week progressive courses in many different activities including:
• Surfing
• Mountain Biking
• Kayaking
• Canoeing
• Snorkelling
• Bodyboarding
• Climbing (Indoors and Outdoors)
• Orienteering
We cater for all abilities and at weekends have groups off Whitewater Kayaking, Mountaineering in North Wales, Sailing in the Exe Estuary and Surfing on North Devon’s beaches.
Our more experienced and able pupils can benefit from the various courses we run for the pupils including 2* & 3* Paddlesport awards, Outdoor First Aid Courses and Fieldskills Mountain Safety courses.
Here at QECC we run various expeditions to a variety of far flung and remote destinations. In the last few years we have had groups head off on expeditions to Peru, Morocco and to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. We have also had expeditions head off to the slightly less exotic but nevertheless challenging Brecon Beacons, Snowdonia National Park and Dartmoor.
Skiing is also a very popular sport at QE and we have a ski trip every year head off to the French Alps.
Extended Schools Provision
Why should the pupils have all the fun?
Well at QE we like to get parents involved as well so we run a range of activities that everyone can involved in. These include weekend sessions in activities such as Mountain Biking, Hill Walking, Surfing and Kayaking. So why not get involved, learn some new skills and most of all have fun!!
Ten Tors
From year 9 onwards we always have teams entered in all the distances for Ten Tors. Hugely popular, it’s not unusual for us to have 50 pupils roaming the moors learning how to navigate and survive in the wilds.
Duke of Edinburgh
At QE we run Bronze, Silver and Gold DofE. We run all kinds of activities through this including all kinds of expeditions and challenges.
Health and Safety in the Outdoors
We take Health and Safety very seriously at QECC. All our instructors are fully qualified and experienced in the relevant activities. All our activities are risk assessed and given approval from the Outdoor Education advisor at Devon County Council. All our equipment at QE is purchased from new and undergoes rigorous safety checks, if it doesn’t meet acceptable standards it’s destroyed. Our first aim is safety everything else comes after.
‘Queen Elizabeths Community College recognises Outdoor and Adventurous Activities are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions’.
