Core PE

In years 10 and 11 every pupil receives 2 hours of physical education each week. We try and vary the curriculum to meet the needs of all learners and allow pupils to experience activities that they may continue with in later life. Pupils are assessed at the end of each activity block and given targets for improvement for both their skill level and their ability to understand rules and apply tactics.

Core sports covered in lesson one:

  • Netball
  • Trampolining
  • Rugby
  • Fitness
  • Dance
  • Basketball
  • Football
  • Badminton

Individual health and wellbeing become a focus at this stage and we hope that lessons encourage pupils to try new things and develop their knowledge and understanding of health and fitness. Pupils are allowed to choose an Option Pathway to follow within their second lesson allowing them to personalise their learning through an aesthetic, game based or leadership route. See below.

Following the leadership route gives pupils the opportunity to gain their Level One (Year 10) and Level Two (Year 11) Award in Sports Leadership.  These awards allow pupils to develop a range of skills:

  • Communication
  • Leadership
  • Co-operation
  • Team work
  • Coaching skills
  • Organisation

It also allows pupils to work with our local primary schools in helping develop the sporting opportunities for all schools in our community. These students help organise festivals  and tournaments for both the younger pupils at QE and primary pupils, giving them first hand experience of leading younger children. This is a nationally recognised award and is an excellent opportunity for anyone looking for a career coaching sports or working with children.
