Autumn
Reading at QE: An introduction to our reading culture, in particular our Reading Group system.
Group Research Task: Reading, Research, Notetaking and Presenting on a specific topic.
Creative Responses: Creative writing in response to artwork. Students enjoy the freedom to choose what their final piece of writing will be.
Spring
Folk Tales from Around the World: students study Folk Tales and Fairy Tales from around the world and then write their own Folk Tales.
Poetry: a range of poetry is read and a variety of poetic techniques are covered. Students practice responding critically to unseen poems.
Communication Skills: Students learn more about communicating effectively, considering subtle ideas of non-verbal communication, creating the appropriate tone in an email and communicating responsibly and sentibly on social network sites.
Summer
The Village People: classes design a village, create and role play characters and explore situations, including completing some non-fiction persuasive writing.
Science Fiction: the genre of Science Fiction is studied and a range of Science Fiction extracts will be analysed and compared. Students may also have the opportunity to develop their own Science Fiction ideas.
