At Key Stage 3 our curriculum is focused on helping children to better understand themselves as learners and build on the necessary learning habits that they need to become more successful in life. We recognise that in order to cope in an ever changing world our young learners will need certain skills and qualities to help them in solving life's problems.
At QE we call these The Skills for Success. Every employer will recognise the importance of these skills. As we never tire of saying, qualifications will get you the interview, but it is these skills which will get you the job! Whatever sphere they choose to operate in, they will give our young people the foundations for a happy and successful life. The Skills for Success are at the heart of our
Learning Strategy. This is our teachers' handbook for making learning and teaching as enjoyable and effective as possible, particularly in developing these skills.
Employers like students who have a broad spread of skills and interests with good achievements in what we call at QE the Skills for Success. These are being:
- Adaptable
- Creative innovators
- Literate in word, number and informatics
- Able to learn new things quickly
- Able to use new technologies
- Able and confident communicators
- Great team workers
- Emotionally well grounded
- Fit and healthy
- Politically aware citizens
- Self-motivated and responsible
- Possessors of a wide range of interests
We believe that approaching our curriculum in this way we are able to prepare our students for the challenges ahead and provide a strong foundation for their journey towards lifelong learning and Key Stage 4 and beyond.
