At Queen Elizabeth’s learning is at the heart of assessment. We assess our learners in order to help them to improve their learning. Assessment is therefore an ongoing and continuous process, not an end result. We recognise the importance of students achieving excellent results in publicly recognised qualifications. In addition we believe that in order to prepare our students properly they will also need to develop the skills and attributes listed in the Skills for Success. In order for our students to develop these skills we need to actively support them, and give students advice and guidance on how to improve.
We have an assessment strategy which is totally focused on giving students the feedback they need in order to improve.
They will be aware what National Curriculum level they are performing at and what to do to reach the next level. They will also know which of the Skills for Success they need to be working on. They will have individual targets set which will help motivate them to continuously improve their performance. We will be collecting this information and will be sending it home to you on a regular basis.
We cannot emphasise enough the power of positive encouragement at home in the process of successful education. We really are in a partnership with only one goal—the best possible outcomes we can achieve for our young people.
In order to make this partnership work more effectively, we have a pattern of consultation events aimed at increasing access and giving better information. You will be able to meet your son or daughter’s Personal Mentor twice a year and will be able to talk to subject staff at other times during your son or daughter’s time with us. The Personal Mentor will be building up a detailed picture of your son or daughter’s progress with us in all fields and will be able to give you an idea of their performance across all subject areas. We are determined to make QE a College that provides the best possible service to parents.
